[00:00:00] ...saying that we struggle all our lives to answer it. That it's the struggle that is important. That's what helps us to define our place in the universe.

[00:00:09] This is, uh, Beverly. Dr. Beverly. Dr. Dr. Beverly Crusher.

[00:00:15] Honest. Forceful. Trusting. Brilliant. Strong. And adventurous. And this is Crusher Convo.

[00:00:27] Hey guys, and welcome to Crusher Convo. We're a crush of the conversation one episode at a time.

[00:00:33] Tonight we got a huge homage to our favorite characters from Star Trek and Fissure Quest.

[00:00:38] And today I have a special guest who reached out to me to talk Lower Decks before it ended. We have Eric today. Hello, Eric. How are you?

    [00:00:45] Not bad. And yourself?

[00:00:46] Pretty good. Pretty good. I was telling you before we started, I've had a long week and a lot of editing, but we did it. I made it.

[00:00:55] I have a quick question. So what is your history with Star Trek? Did you grow up with it? Are you new to the franchise? Like, what's your, what's your Trek story?

[00:01:02] Uh, so basically, uh, honestly, I, uh, Trek has kind of been intermittent in my life. I kind of, I watched a few, uh, one episode, a data episode when I was like six or seven.

[00:01:13] I liked it well enough, but then like I mostly became a comic book superhero kid. And then it wasn't until early enough, uh, Star Trek menisys, even though I know it's not really a well received by fans.

[00:01:24] But I liked it well enough that it actually got me back into the franchise. And slowly from there, I just started rewatching everything I could from TNG and, um, Voyager and TOS and just slowly became, uh, uh, a super fan from then on.

[00:01:40] And now pretty much I've got tons of novels and I dig deep into whatever I can from podcasts and whatnot. Yeah.

[00:01:48] Awesome. So how did you find Crusher Convo? Did you're searching Beverly and I popped up or?

[00:01:53] Well, oddly enough. Yeah. Yeah. So I, I joined threads and just was browsing around and notice you. And then I was like, Oh, Hey, this is a podcast.

[00:02:02] I haven't heard of, uh, decided to check it out. And I pretty much caught myself up on the current season of Lord of the X of your reviews.

[00:02:10] Awesome. Perfect. Hopefully you enjoyed it. Maybe agree, disagreed a little.

[00:02:14] I definitely enjoyed it. It's a, it's kind of a akin to like a strange new pods and the sense, you know, it's fun, casual and insightful all at the same time.

[00:02:24] Yes. Yeah. That's what I tried to do. You know, just having a chat, just kinda, you know, talking about why we love the show and why we love Trek.

[00:02:31] So, um, we have Chuck in the chat today saying hello and everyone. And he says, hello, Eric.

[00:02:38] Hi Chuck. Check Instagram real fast. We have Leslie that just joined us. So hi, Leslie.

[00:02:44] So I'm going to go ahead and jump in and start. We'll start talking about this episode with this clip.

[00:02:51] Thanks for the save. I thought it was a goner.

[00:02:53] What a surprise. Another Harry Kim.

[00:02:56] What do you mean? Another most of the crew are Harry Kim's.

[00:03:00] Oh, who's this handsome guy? Hey, Eric.

[00:03:02] The Kim crew is thriving.

    [00:03:04] High five, baby.

[00:03:05] I'm so sick of the f***ing multiverse.

    [00:03:07] Kim. Kim.

[00:03:08] So I have to ask when you saw Harry, uh, pop it and not only Harry, we got to Paul, we got Eric, we got Bashir.

[00:03:18] Um, and we got Lily.

    [00:03:22] That was a shocker.

    [00:03:23] Oh, and Curzon.

    [00:03:24] Yes.

    [00:03:25] Yes.

    [00:03:26] And Curzon.

[00:03:27] And the thing is, I'm just like, wow, they went all out with this episode.

[00:03:31] So how did you feel when you saw that they had all these different characters from different, you know, or different shows just pop in?

[00:03:39] Uh, so like, I was quite surprised.

[00:03:41] Uh, so like, I was quite surprised.

[00:03:41] I mean, honestly, I, I kind of expected, um, to Paul was going to appear, but I knew that was kind of up in the air.

[00:03:48] Cause, uh, Mike McMahon had mentioned in interviews, like he was hoping to get someone from enterprise, but it, the, it was on talk.

[00:03:55] So there was no guarantees she would, he would be able to get her cause she pretty much retired from acting and was happy with her own, uh, role of phone, uh, life.

[00:04:03] So, uh, I was quite surprised and pleased he was able to get her, but I was even more surprised that like it didn't stop there.

[00:04:09] You know, of course to Kim's, which we kind of knew from the, um, tailors and teachers, but I was much, uh, much surprised by, um, Derek and Bashir and just, and, uh, Lily Sloan.

[00:04:21] That was the most, I think partly that just cherry on top of surprises.

[00:04:24] Cause I mean, you know, I thought the surprises were ending after the ship crew.

[00:04:29] I didn't think to it'd be another one on top of it.

    [00:04:32] Yeah.

    [00:04:32] Oh, absolutely.

[00:04:33] When Lily came out and she was like, oh my gosh, it's Lily Sloan.

    [00:04:36] I was like, that's, that's what's her name.

    [00:04:39] It was Alfre Woodward.

[00:04:40] And I was like, that can't be her.

    [00:04:41] That can't be her.

    [00:04:42] It's been 30 plus years.

    [00:04:44] Like no way.

[00:04:46] And I looked it up and I was like, that son of a gun.

[00:04:48] She came and did it and not only her, but Jolene, like you said, she retired and she came back just to reprise this role.

[00:04:57] We're so blessed to have these actors.

    [00:05:00] Oh yeah, definitely.

    [00:05:01] I mean.

[00:05:02] Mike went all this way, like went through all this way to like get all these people and just, uh, just awesome.

[00:05:09] You know, and I think not only does he do it for, for us as you know, as the fans, but he does it for himself.

    [00:05:15] He's a fan too.

    [00:05:16] Right.

[00:05:16] He was like, I got a list.

[00:05:18] I'm going to go down and we'll figure it out.

[00:05:20] Now the episode did start out though, with our normal crew, uh, in their, in their 10, for their cafeteria and reference rough, rough, the Rutherford.

    [00:05:30] I could speak today.

    [00:05:31] Um, Oculus was malfunctioning.

[00:05:33] Um, and I was thinking that maybe it's because in that moment, the altering of the quantum realities was happening with William Boimler and everything.

[00:05:42] And that's why it was malfunctioning because this is where they were headed towards.

[00:05:45] But, um, especially cause it was doing it like it was shooting out plasma and they're like, it's not supposed to do that, you know?

    [00:05:53] Exactly.

[00:05:54] Um, almost burned our, our Boimler to death.

[00:05:57] So I thought that was a nice little tease without really, I didn't expect that ending.

[00:06:03] Did you get a sense in the beginning that maybe something was happening in this moment?

[00:06:08] Um, no, I, I just thought maybe it was just some kind of weird, uh, malfunction as he like mentioned, he was trying to sink in with the Cerrito systems, I believe.

[00:06:16] And I just thought maybe it was just some kind of weird feedback loop or something like that.

[00:06:20] I didn't, I wouldn't think it, uh, it was because of possibly of the Boimler clone.

    [00:06:26] Yeah.

    [00:06:26] Yeah.

[00:06:27] And I actually was kind of happy to see Will Boimler and all, and honestly, I feel like it was a different side of him.

[00:06:35] You could kind of see him defeated a little, like he's just tired.

[00:06:39] He's doing all of this stuff for section 31.

[00:06:44] And he's just like, I'm really done with like, he was like, I think in multiverse, right?

[00:06:50] He was just like, I'm done.

[00:06:52] Were you happy to see him?

[00:06:53] Were you thinking that something bad might happen?

[00:06:56] Cause he wasn't that great of a guy.

    [00:06:57] Yeah.

    [00:06:58] Other episodes.

[00:06:59] It kind of made sense how, how he ended up where he ended up because obviously this version,

[00:07:05] uh, this, um, clone or, uh, Boimler like was more career minded or prestige minded or whatever

    [00:07:11] it was exactly.

[00:07:12] And just kind of got himself stuck because he doesn't have what, uh, Brad does with his,

[00:07:20] is his connection with friends and more balanced between what he wants and actually needs for

[00:07:25] to have a meaningful life.

[00:07:27] And, uh, but I was, I mean, I was kind of excess, uh, expecting, um, William to have like

[00:07:34] some kind of weird, like conspiracy type black ops type thing.

[00:07:38] So I didn't expect, I suspect he'd be involved in multiverse shenanigans.

    [00:07:43] Right.

[00:07:44] And, and it's, that's perfect that you said that because you kind of see that when the

[00:07:49] alternate Mariner shows up and she's kind of more of our Boimler, right?

    [00:07:53] Like I'm chill.

    [00:07:54] I don't want danger.

[00:07:55] I want to just do my, you know, engineering.

[00:07:57] And he was so excited to see her.

[00:07:59] And then I felt bad.

[00:08:00] Cause I was like, he didn't have his other half.

[00:08:03] He didn't have, you know, he like, like Brad had said in the beginning, he was like,

    [00:08:09] I, it was me.

    [00:08:10] I was duplicate.

    [00:08:11] We were split.

    [00:08:12] Like there was nothing.

    [00:08:13] We weren't a clone.

[00:08:14] It was me split in half.

[00:08:16] And so William Boimler was, was missing having his friends and stuff like that.

[00:08:22] And he looked so happy, especially after all the Harry Kim's, um, that he had, it was

    [00:08:27] like finally a change.

[00:08:30] And Chuck says the ensign of Kim man.

[00:08:34] Um, so I mean, yeah, it's definitely one of those things where you kind of start to

[00:08:40] see, well, he was trying to find his place kind of like what Thomas Riker had the same

    [00:08:45] problem.

[00:08:46] He was trying to find his place.

[00:08:47] He was trying to find his place in the world as you know, William Riker was a commander

[00:08:51] and the enterprise and all that stuff.

[00:08:53] And so this, you know, William Boimler was having the same problems.

[00:08:56] So I liked that they brought that together in that full circle.

[00:09:02] Cause we just thought that he was like, oh, he's just the bad half.

[00:09:06] But this Boimler is basically the alternate Boimler that Brad word is trying to be.

    [00:09:13] Yeah, exactly.

[00:09:14] You know what I mean?

[00:09:15] So he technically is that alternate Boimler that he saw, but it's in William.

[00:09:21] So I, I, I don't know what's going to happen in the final episode of how that's going to

[00:09:26] come together because we've been, well, I've been talking about, you know, what is that red

    [00:09:30] pad going to do?

    [00:09:31] What's going to happen?

[00:09:32] Like something's going to happen in this whole thing.

[00:09:36] And, you know, William, I think it's going to play a part in that.

[00:09:40] What, what did you think about?

[00:09:43] We got sheer and Garrick as a married couple.

[00:09:47] Everyone has been shipping these two since the beginning of time.

    [00:09:51] And Mike did it.

    [00:09:52] I laughed so hard.

[00:09:54] I was like, he did it.

[00:09:55] He finally, he made these fancy at the ones that shipped them.

[00:09:59] Like, yes, we got vindicated.

[00:10:01] What did you think about that?

[00:10:03] So I'm a little slow on the DS9 boat.

[00:10:05] So I've, I'm still like working my way through that series.

[00:10:08] So like when everybody was, was obviously aware, like that, that Garrick and Bashir were playing

[00:10:16] as they're interested in each other, I was completely clueless.

[00:10:18] I thought they were just really close friends.

    [00:10:21] Right.

[00:10:22] So it, it wasn't until like much later I became aware.

[00:10:26] And so, but it made, it made me kind of happy and sad and sad in a sense, like they couldn't do it in the series itself, but like happy that, oh, the, at least alternate versions of themselves found love.

[00:10:37] And it's sweet that, you know, like Garrick, you know, also became a doctor rather than just a full on, a sitting order type dude.

[00:10:46] And, and Bashir got to have his EMH at developed.

    [00:10:52] Yes, exactly.

    [00:10:54] Um, I, I don't know.

    [00:10:56] I, I, I just loved it.

[00:10:57] I just thought it was funny and I just thought it was great that Mike was able to put that together.

[00:11:01] He's like, okay, they didn't do it in our universe.

[00:11:03] So I'm going to do it somewhere else.

[00:11:05] Mariner, the alt Mariner I mentioned as engineering.

[00:11:09] And again, like I said, I felt like they were kind of doing polar opposites to how our Mariner and Brad is.

[00:11:15] And, um, between will and this Mariner, how did you feel like they connected?

[00:11:21] Um, even though this was, you know, cause she was saying her Boimler is kind of like our Mariner, like, oh, you know, he's into danger.

[00:11:29] And he wears this leather jacket.

[00:11:30] We've gotten used to it, you know, and he's just doing his own thing, still an ensign.

[00:11:34] So I found that funny.

[00:11:35] Cause I was like, oh, she's mentioning her, our Mariner.

    [00:11:38] Right.

[00:11:38] Um, but what did you think of her being this, you know, totally different, like to the books, doing my job, figuring things out.

[00:11:45] And, you know, complaining about waiting in, uh, the bog planet.

    [00:11:49] Yeah.

[00:11:50] I, I think I kind of developed like a possible backstory, like a, what kind of shaped her this way.

[00:11:55] And I imagine just like maybe in the, in her universe, Cito didn't die and, or maybe just had a scare and just made him more, um, this Mariner more ops Mariner, more cautious and decided to become an engineer where generally it's relatively safe.

[00:12:10] At least considering, uh, compared to something like ops or science where you're more likely to be, uh, hit by some weird science or strange rays or energies.

[00:12:21] Um, but I was also surprised by, uh, how fast Brad was so quick to hug her, even though it was like alternate, uh, um, Mariner.

[00:12:30] It just, without even like just any hesitation at all.

[00:12:32] And it's noticeable, like how he reacts to her when you get down to the bog planet and he's, um, a word for safety, puts an arm in front of her in case anything happens.

[00:12:44] And definitely shields her when the Quampians start appearing.

    [00:12:48] Yeah.

    [00:12:49] Yeah.

[00:12:49] And I mean, even Lily had mentioned that he was, you know, cause he was all like, why are you not, you know, why are you only looking to humans instead of, you know, other, other species?

[00:12:59] And she's all like, because we do so many things.

[00:13:02] He's like, she's like, look, this is a totally different Mariner to yours.

[00:13:06] And yet you trust her.

[00:13:07] And that means your friendship goes across all universes.

[00:13:10] And I thought that was so cool that she mentioned that because it's true.

[00:13:13] Mariner and Boimler have a very, very, very special relationship.

[00:13:17] And this shows, but I like what you say about how she's more cautious because Cito probably did live, but it was a close call.

[00:13:26] And so that's why she went on a different path, which I think is what those first two alternate Mariner and Boimlers were trying to show them.

[00:13:35] Like that Mariner was a dictator as a captain.

[00:13:38] And then the other one was too chill and awesome, you know?

[00:13:41] So it was like making just one change in their life, just put them on a different path.

[00:13:46] And this is a perfect example for that, for this Mariner.

[00:13:49] Now, of course, this Lily is not our Lily.

    [00:13:52] It's an alternate Lily.

[00:13:54] Instead of them doing warp drive, they did a quantum, quantum riff drive.

[00:14:00] I think it was like, was it?

    [00:14:01] I believe so.

    [00:14:02] Yeah.

    [00:14:03] Yeah.

[00:14:04] So, but she was wearing the enterprise garb and that's, that's a good hundred years.

    [00:14:10] There's a two.

    [00:14:10] Yeah.

[00:14:12] I was kind of confused.

[00:14:14] I'm an enterprise right now, so I'm still learning, but at least I knew who DePaul was.

    [00:14:19] Yeah.

[00:14:20] So interesting enough how ours was the warp drive.

[00:14:23] They're doing the quantum, you know, riffs and things like that.

[00:14:26] And of course she accidentally was causing trouble.

    [00:14:29] Whoops.

[00:14:31] Um, but again, so good to see that Alfred Woodward came back as Lily.

[00:14:37] That is, that was awesome.

    [00:14:39] Definitely.

    [00:14:39] Yeah.

    [00:14:40] Perfect.

[00:14:41] My guess for the enterprise uniforms is that possibly the, the, the star fleet initiative

[00:14:47] or program started much quicker possibly because maybe, um, maybe when they saw the, the quantum

[00:14:55] riff engine, uh, when the Vulcans witnessed her use of it, maybe they just kind of jumpstarted

[00:15:00] it as, because it's quite a leap forward as opposed to warp, which is just basically fast

[00:15:06] travel where the quantum riff, um, engine is able to travel off to the universes.

[00:15:11] So I'm sure that kind of jumpstarted things and hence the beam would have jumpsuits rather

[00:15:16] than just the weird, uh, century fashion he had back then.

    [00:15:20] Mm hmm.

    [00:15:21] Yeah.

    [00:15:22] I like that theory.

[00:15:23] Um, Chuck says Andy Robinson is so cool to talk to in star Trek, Las Vegas.

[00:15:29] I haven't had the opportunity, but I would love to talk to him.

[00:15:33] And he says, you broke your little ships.

    [00:15:36] Yes.

[00:15:36] I wish he said something.

[00:15:38] I wish there was a perfect line that we saw in the movie and first contact that she said

[00:15:43] here, that would have been really cool.

[00:15:45] Um, even that, like if they were talking about one of their little ships or something, um, in

[00:15:51] the bog planet, like, I don't remember the actual names of these creatures, but they just

[00:15:55] look like oxalotls to me.

    [00:15:57] Oh yeah.

[00:15:57] Uh, I believe they're Kwameans and their plan is Kwampa.

    [00:16:01] Kwampa.

    [00:16:02] Okay.

[00:16:03] Cause I know, um, Curzon had said those salamanders.

    [00:16:06] Oh, yeah.

[00:16:07] And I was all like, you know, um, so even, even they could be evil, just like we had evil

[00:16:15] whales and, um, so let's, I'm going to get right into what the whole Kim, uh, Ensign Kim

    [00:16:23] thing.

[00:16:24] So, you know, they have a whole, they have a whole ship of Kim's from different, different

    [00:16:29] realities.

    [00:16:30] They're all ensigns.

[00:16:31] They're all pretty cool dudes doing their thing.

[00:16:34] Then they get a two pip Kim and he kind of loses his mind.

[00:16:39] And I think that was what kind of threw me off a little bit because he kind of lost it

    [00:16:45] pretty quick.

[00:16:46] Like it was, yeah, I think I could have personally, I could have used a little bit more setup,

[00:16:51] but I think, I think just the general idea of is, is maybe he's a little too, um, he,

[00:16:58] maybe he's like insecure or at least like too worried, too obsessed with like trying to

[00:17:04] make his mark on things.

[00:17:06] And just seeing those other Kim's, I think probably just snap something in them.

[00:17:10] Like where they're kind of stuck at a lower position thinking they should have been, um,

[00:17:15] they had potential, but just weren't recognized or promoted fast enough where he thinks some

[00:17:21] kind of, I'm thinking it's some kind of like comparison thing.

    [00:17:23] Well, I mean, that's actually a good point.

[00:17:25] Cause maybe he, it sparked something in him.

[00:17:29] Like it brought back a bad memory for him.

[00:17:32] Like it took him a long time to get those two pips and to think he's like in other realities,

    [00:17:37] it's also harder.

[00:17:38] And it just made them snap.

[00:17:40] But yeah, if I just had a little bit more context, I know they were trying to get all

    [00:17:44] this stuff in.

[00:17:45] And I think the flow was very good.

[00:17:48] I think the flow was great.

[00:17:50] Um, I did have an issue with last, the last episode when they were talking about the upper

    [00:17:55] deckers, right.

[00:17:57] And, um, everything was, to me, it was just kind of thrown together, mashed together, boom,

[00:18:01] boom, boom, boom, walked out the door.

    [00:18:03] Right.

[00:18:03] This one had a little bit more of a better, like, I could follow the story and I knew what

[00:18:09] was happening without too much context behind it.

[00:18:13] But, um, but I think the whole, you know, Ensign Kim thing was just not only a good plot.

[00:18:19] He kind of reminded me of Nick Locarno, how he lost his mind.

    [00:18:23] Right.

    [00:18:23] That's the feeling that I got.

[00:18:25] But, you know, then the, but it also was the whole joke of, he never got promoted.

[00:18:33] So it was a, it was a nice little, you know, putting it together and in different ways.

[00:18:39] I'm going to go into to Paul in this point.

[00:18:42] So, like I said, we got Jolene black and she, like you said, she's been retired.

    [00:18:49] Didn't what I heard her voice.

[00:18:51] Cause like I said, I'm watching enterprise.

[00:18:52] I was like, that's her, that's gotta be her.

    [00:18:54] There's no way.

[00:18:55] And it was so nice to see, but this one was married to trip Tucker.

[00:19:01] Uh, that her trip did not die.

    [00:19:03] Like ours did.

[00:19:06] Um, they got, I think they said 63 years.

[00:19:09] And so she knows, uh, you know, human emotions.

[00:19:12] And of course she has this relationship or this friendship with Curzon Dax who has not passed on his symbiont yet.

[00:19:20] And of course, um, today I had her truck movie.

[00:19:25] I don't know if you've listened to their podcast, but truck movie had mentioned that, um, this might be a way to bring Jadzia back.

[00:19:33] Oh, okay. Yeah. That'd be interesting.

[00:19:35] Cause I know we lost our, you know, spoiler alert.

[00:19:38] Sorry, but you know, she died and, um, it was horrible and it was dumb.

[00:19:45] And, you know, even Carrie who played her is just still like devastated that her character got killed off.

[00:19:51] You know, she would love to come back.

[00:19:53] I feel like this could be a way to do it.

[00:19:56] Like, I like that mindset that, that, you know, an alternate version of her might be able to.

[00:20:02] To come back. Would you, what is there any character that you would like to have seen come back in any way?

[00:20:09] Besides the ones that they have already shown.

[00:20:11] Oh, you know, my answer.

[00:20:16] It's not gonna happen, but you know my answer.

[00:20:18] Yeah, that's kind of a shame. Like, you know, but, um, here's hoping someday when there, whenever there's a lower next revival or movie that she pops in there as a vital part of the, of the story.

[00:20:28] Um, not, not off the top of my head that I can think of right now, but I mean, honestly, like, I just like the way Mike is really, um, he, he really surprised, he, uh, what's the word? He subverts, subverts expectations.

[00:20:46] Like once, when I think after watch, after consuming so much media, I can kind of tell where things are going to go more or less with a lot of different, uh, uh, media.

[00:20:55] But, well, Mike, he always manages to surprise me, uh, like at least a good percentage of the time.

[00:21:01] And I mean, I mean like just choosing this, uh, this crew of the Axiomander, I didn't expect a lot of these characters.

[00:21:09] And, but, um, off the top of my head, um, I mean, I wouldn't mind seeing Wil Wheaton, the Traveler. Um, just more of him. I think he would mix well with this group and just lead to more hijinks and fun.

    [00:21:23] Yeah. Well, besides Beverly.

[00:21:29] Do you need to tap dance?

[00:21:32] Um, I know. Right. I think I would, I, it's never going to happen, but then he got Jolene back. So who knows? I would love to see Cisco.

[00:21:40] I would love to see him.

    [00:21:41] Oh yes. Yeah.

[00:21:42] I would think that would be fantastic. Now he also, I guess, retired dropped, like, I don't know where he is.

[00:21:51] Well, I hear he's also a bit eccentric too. So like, he might be just not interested in, yeah, just forming for anymore.

[00:21:59] Probably. Yeah. I, and you know, and, and that you mentioned, will like we did get Ensign will, you know, or Ensign Wesley in last season.

[00:22:09] And then we got Traveler, Wesley and, and Prodigy, but it's true because Lower Decks is so different.

[00:22:15] It would be interesting to see like what had happened with Prodigy and what's going on.

[00:22:19] Cause I think Prodigy happened after this. So I think Lower Decks is 2382 and Prodigy was 2385.

[00:22:32] So we'll see Wesley in three years.

[00:22:34] Um, but maybe he might be seeing something's going on because of these whole quantum realities.

[00:22:41] So maybe he might, maybe we might get a crusher. I don't know. We'll see what happens.

[00:22:45] I've, you know, I had an interview. I don't know if you saw it, but I had an interview with Mike McMahon.

[00:22:49] Mm-hmm . And I had mentioned that I was all like, I really wish we had Beverly crush.

[00:22:53] He's like me too. Um, and he's like, and so did Gates. Gates really wanted to be written in, but he's like, but we got canceled.

[00:23:01] Yeah. And he's all like, it sucks, but it is what it is. And I was like, gosh, dang it.

[00:23:06] But it would have been so great to see her in, in this part of her life because in Prodigy, they showed her have toddler Jack.

[00:23:16] And then this point she would have baby Jack and it would be like, very interesting.

[00:23:20] If like Mariner had found her or something and kept her secret. Right.

[00:23:24] Cause she knew who she was because she was friends with Wesley in the academy. So I was hoping.

[00:23:30] I was hoping, but you know, unfortunately, um, Chuck says Garrett Wang did such a great job on all these voiceovers, which is true.

[00:23:39] He had to play very different Kim's on all these different realities include any, he did.

[00:23:47] They didn't interview an intrac movie. And he said that in the script, it was to Pip Kim.

[00:23:51] Like that was his name and the script. So he knew how to do it.

[00:23:54] Uh, check says also Jake Cisco.

[00:23:57] He thinks that Jake's it. So would it be really cool to have?

[00:24:00] Oh yeah. That'd be good. Yeah.

[00:24:01] Yeah. And I think Ciroc, he would totally do it. He would totally do it.

[00:24:06] Well, I mean, uh, Mariner was stationed on DS nine for, uh, right.

[00:24:10] So, I mean, I, I, I got, I wish there would be some like, uh, like flashback adventures to young Mariner will hang out on the promenade.

    [00:24:17] Uh, Jake and whoever.

[00:24:19] And who else, who else going on? Yeah. Cause we had, um, what did we have? We had quark. Right. And then we had, um, Kira.

[00:24:29] Kira. Yeah. So, and yeah, cause Shax knew Kira. So yeah, that was a good episode.

[00:24:35] So like we were, I was saying about to Paul and Dax's friendship and instead of passing on the Dax symbiont to Paul took the memories.

[00:24:44] And so I'm wondering if, you know, because these, um, Trill can, they can live normal lives without a symbiont, but maybe if she, maybe this might be a different Jadzia without the symbiont, but her memories, like doing a mind meld.

[00:25:00] I don't know, but I think she got the memories while they were going through that rift because didn't something happen. And she was like, that was a lot. She was kind of like, yeah, I think she was just overwhelmed because obviously the symbiont has led several lives or has collected several lives, however it works.

[00:25:19] And I can imagine that's overwhelming, uh, even for a Vulcan.

[00:25:23] Yeah. That's very true. Chuck says a mourn cameo. He won't stop talking. Wasn't he in that episode of DS9? Wasn't he sitting at the bar and he, yeah, he was chatting it up like crazy.

[00:25:35] I believe so. Um, yeah. So of course there's a lot of techno babble, but there's a lot of techno babble going on. And of course they figure out that one reality, either they will be destroyed to save all of them, or they'll be able to save everybody.

[00:25:52] And will is like, well, send it to mine. Cause I trust my people. And I loved the ending when Brad gets the thing and he just, he's like, we're all going to die.

[00:26:06] And he starts screaming and you're crying. And I went, Oh, I, I cannot wait for the next episode. What in your mind? Cause the next episode is going to be called the next, next generation.

[00:26:18] And I'm very sad about this, but just seeing this whole thing and all these different characters and all these different realities and seeing everything happening.

[00:26:28] I mean, personally, I can't even guess what's going to happen in the next episode. I'm clueless. What do you think? What, what either, what do you think is going to happen or what you hope is going to happen in this next one?

[00:26:41] Um, as much as I love, like all the various characters that they've introduced in this episode and the other side characters and, and, and the series, I hope it, I mean, I do want them to be showcased, but I hope there's a bigger focus on the fab five because they kind of didn't neglect at least these past two episodes.

[00:27:04] And that's unfortunately the downside of a 10 episode count for each season is like, we just don't get enough. And I mean, even when it showcases the characters, we still feel we want more and more.

[00:27:16] And I just hope there's a good showcase of all these characters before we have to say goodbye. Uh, just, I definitely want more to Lynn. Um, I just barely getting enough of her. Um, I, I, I just wanted to see them doing their, uh, just being them, them being

[00:27:34] good friends. Uh, because that's what really sold me on the show even more so than anything, just, uh, the found family aspect of the show. Um, but I definitely want to see more screaming from Boimler, uh, Mariner being a chaos gabbling, just pull, pulling something out, just like maybe a triple or something to help save the day.

[00:27:55] Oh, if the triple the day I, I'm all in, I'm all in, or maybe a moopsie. Okay.

[00:28:05] If moves, it comes in is like, I got this.

[00:28:08] Oh, why hasn't somebody weaponized moopsie there? Moopsies and triples.

[00:28:14] They're you got like a pretty strong army of those two alone.

    [00:28:18] Yeah.

[00:28:19] Well, it's funny because Curzon actually made that joke because it was the, I'm just going to call them axolotls because I can't remember their name, but he was like, it's better than drinking our bones.

[00:28:27] And I was like, um, but I mean, I just now, because it's called the next, next generation, I have a gut feeling.

[00:28:38] I mean, we're going to have more TNG people, right? We had Riker and Troy before. It would be nice to see them again. You know, they were in the first couple seasons. Um, we never got Geordi. Um, I don't think we ever got Worf. And I, I would really, really hope that we would get to see these characters before they end. And maybe a Beverly Crusher.

[00:29:05] But, um, of course, crossing figures, but I, you know, there is definitely, I feel like there's going to be a torch passing in this sense. And, um, for Mike, and even they did this in prodigy cause they don't know if they're going to be renewed for a season three. So the way they ended it is like they could end it and it's fine, but it could also continue.

[00:29:26] And I think that's what they might do is that we'll get a good ending, but there's still room for, for more.

[00:29:36] But I did really enjoy this episode. Um, I, again, I was listening to Trek movie and cause, um, uh, Lily's ship was called the Beagle.

[00:29:48] And, um, and I was even thinking, I was like, why is it called the Beagle? And so Tony said, he was like, do you think it's a reference to Archer's dog?

[00:29:59] Cause he was a Beagle. And I was all like, oh, duh.

[00:30:03] Uh, was it Porthos the dog? And I was like, that's probably it because she was wearing the uniform. This, like you said, they, it probably happened quicker than what we had because they were doing something totally different.

[00:30:14] And I was all like, that's Porthos instead of an actual dog. It's, it's, it's the ship.

[00:30:20] Uh, Chuck said we needed a T'Pol and Talyn scene.

[00:30:23] Oh yes. Yes. I would definitely love to see that. Yeah.

[00:30:26] I think I'm wondering if we're still going to see the characters in this next episode. Like, is T'Pol going to be in this next one?

[00:30:32] Are we going to see William? Are we going to see, uh, well, Curzon died, unfortunately.

[00:30:37] Um, are we going to see the Kims and, and Garrett, uh, interview and track movie.

[00:30:42] He, he kind of hinted that he might be in this final episode.

[00:30:48] I'm just saying he refused to answer the question, but to me, that's a yes, but

[00:30:54] I'm going to look at Instagram real fast. So we also have JB tales and tales also joined. So hello.

[00:31:01] Um, but yeah, I think I loved seeing Lily with Mariner. I loved, like, I would love to see T'Pol and Talyn, uh, definitely need to have more of the upper deckers.

[00:31:15] So, you know, Tiana and Shaxx and Freeman and Ransom, uh, Billups, you know, definitely having, they're all going to have to come together to really stop these rifts and, you know, save, save the universe.

[00:31:28] And I find it funny because this is only happening in what, three years before Prodigy. And they also had to stop the universe.

[00:31:35] So I was like, is Wesley going to pop in? And he's all like, again, like, he's like, I got this as long as it's not the board.

[00:31:44] Yeah. Um, you've heard, um, I believe, or, um, I could be wrong, but like, I believe I heard, um, when they first introduced Wesley, he's kind of, um, a bit spacey and like often he'll pop, uh, pop out of the scene and then pop back in.

[00:32:00] And supposedly he possibly had an adventure in between talking to them. And what if this, like this lower decks episode, next lower decks episode is possibly one of the ventures he went on if he were to pop in?

[00:32:11] Yeah. I, one, I believe it too. I would love it. Cause he was even saying, didn't he say something in Prodigy where he was all like, oh, right. We haven't met yet. You know? And then he was all like linear time. It's a trip, you know, because he's, yeah, he just kept, he's like the doctor. That's why I loved it. He was just going back and forth and, and different timelines in his own mind. And he was doing stuff.

[00:32:33] But I think this, um, this last episode is going to be, I can't believe it's over. I remember when I started this and I was going to do the react and reviews. I was like, all right, 10 weeks. I got the, well, nine weeks, but I was like, oh yeah, this is fine. And now I'm here. We're done. And I'm like, ah, this so sucks. I don't like it.

[00:32:54] Yeah. I know it's, it's been kind of hard. Like I even feel a bit guilty because knowing it's the last season, uh, hopefully until revival or something. But like, I've been kind of, I've been enjoying it, but I've also been judging harshly because like, just because I'm frustrated that this is the last season. We're not getting enough. We're not getting more, at least for now. It's just, it's hard. Yeah.

[00:33:17] Yeah. Yeah. Uh, there was a couple, like I said, the last episode, I wasn't too fond of, uh, gods and angles. I wasn't a huge fan of, I liked the Boimler and Tiana stuff more than, um, I can't remember her name, but the, you know, the granddaughter of, of, of Zeus.

    [00:33:32] Oh yeah.

[00:33:32] So I, I definitely have a little bit more and I, I understood, like, I, I knew that in the beginning they didn't know they were canceled. Right. So that's, these episodes were just kind of slow and just going in.

[00:33:46] And then at the very end, like, I felt like upper decks was kind of just thrown in there because it's like, oh shoot, we're ending. We got to do this real fast and then we'll get to the next episode.

[00:33:54] And so they're filler episodes, which is fine, but wasn't, um, it wasn't enough to grab me, you know, had great moments. I don't think any lower decks episode is bad. Just there are some better than others. And Chuck said, it's Ollie. Thank you, Chuck.

[00:34:11] Like granddaughter of Zeus is Ollie. Yes, it is.

[00:34:15] Well, and it hurts that there's, it's a DC, uh, these seasons also have a shorter episode count because like you think, well, at least I know animation isn't cheap and it isn't easy, but like wish we could at least like get 14 episodes or something. Just a little, a little bit extra.

[00:34:30] Yeah. Oh yeah. And we, I mean, we got that a little bit with discovery, you know, they had some 15 episodes season 13, you know, which was great. And then you get strange new worlds prodigy. Well, prodigy was 20 per season. So that was nice.

[00:34:47] But for lower decks, it's only 10 and yeah. And Picard only 10. I mean, I wouldn't have mind to see more Beverly Crusher and Picard, but, uh, and, and yeah, there was even some stuff in Picard that I felt was rushed.

[00:35:01] You know, as much as I think no one scenario is an amazing episode. I think it had really no place in the season because it was just like, yeah, they were getting out of the gravity. Well, but that was it. Like that's all they were doing. And I was like, we lost a whole episode that didn't really pertain fully to the story. I mean, that's just me.

[00:35:21] Yeah. Well, I understand. Cause I'm kind of the same way. Like I like that season as a whole, but I felt there were some episodes where nothing really move plot wise or character wise.

[00:35:31] Right. And, uh, surrender. I felt I was, I was a little disappointed in surrender because I thought that Jack was going to surrender himself to save everybody. And then those last two episodes were going to be them trying to get him back. And that didn't happen.

[00:35:48] He ended up just leaving on his own, which I felt very, as much as I didn't know Jack, the character very well, it was very uncharacteristic of him. Just be like, Oh mom, I got this piece out. And I was like, that's no Jack. She didn't raise you like that. Jack let's, let's not go down that road. Um, and so, yeah, there was, and I think again, they were just kind of rushing it to get to the story.

[00:36:09] And, and I know the data and lore part was important. That was the surrender, but it just didn't work well in my opinion. So, um, but, but yeah, I mean, you know, we're always going to be, I guess, critical on certain things because we've had good episodes and then we seen like, so it's easy, it's easy to, um, it's easy to compare, you know, for sure.

[00:36:38] Um, before we, we, I start wrapping this up, what has been your overall favorite of lower decks? So what is it about lower decks that you just love so much?

[00:36:48] Um, just the fun family aspect, uh, cause, and especially in this episode, it's really strong. Cause I mean, you've got Derek and Beshear alternate reality versions of themselves, finding each other.

[00:37:00] You got to Paul making a French travel of curves on, you've got, um, uh, William Boehler, uh, of connecting with alternate reality Mariner, letting his, his, um, his shields down.

[00:37:15] So he can actually be the person, like the person he was that before he got sucked up into section 31 and into the Titan career track and all that.

[00:37:25] Um, but yeah, just, they, I mean, just everything about it, just the, um, there's, I mean, to land on like the, the nice wholesome acceptance of her vocalists, not telling her to change or anything like that, accepting her, uh, as is, because she was pretty much rejected by her own people.

[00:37:44] And for being too, for, uh, not conforming to their, to their norms.

[00:37:50] Uh, I mean, and even got like, um, uh, Brad and Mariner, this like the most chaotic friendship, but yet they find a way to make it work.

[00:38:00] The, it's a, it's a yin and yang relationship where they kind of balance each other out where Mariner is a bit too chaotic for her own good.

[00:38:07] And Brad's a little bit too much of a people pleaser for his own good or, or, uh, following the wrong goals.

[00:38:14] And he kind of helped ground each other.

    [00:38:16] Oh yeah, for sure.

[00:38:18] And, and like you said, we see that with William and this other Mariner, right?

[00:38:22] Cause it flipped, but it's still, it's still worked, you know?

[00:38:26] And even that those alternate versions that we saw in the very first episode, where it was the horrible dictator Mariner as the captain.

[00:38:33] And then the chill one, again, she was addicted.

[00:38:36] He was the chill one.

    [00:38:37] And yet it worked.

[00:38:38] Cause she was like, it was like, ah, in the break I'll take over.

[00:38:41] Like it just, no matter what reality that they're in, their friendship really stands the test of time.

[00:38:48] And not only, you know, Brad's and, you know, Boimler and Mariner's friendship, but even Rutherford and Tendi, you know, Rutherford had a really hard time when Tendi was back home.

[00:39:02] He was like, just keeping himself busy.

[00:39:04] So he didn't have to think about how sad he was.

[00:39:07] And then to Lynn being, you know, trying to fit in because she's now new to this group.

[00:39:13] She's trying to help them in different ways, right?

[00:39:16] She tried to help Rutherford.

[00:39:17] She tried to help Tendi in that last episode with Data.

[00:39:21] And so I think, yeah, like you said, that found family and even the relationship that Mariner has with her mom, being the captain and them finding common ground.

[00:39:33] It's definitely been really cool.

[00:39:36] And in just in a funny way.

[00:39:37] So it keeps you interested and it keeps you engaged.

    [00:39:40] Right.

[00:39:41] And just to add, there's like also the Shaxx with him not just being security of the ship and stuff, but also looking over the people when he when he had that little that little was it that little get together where they're just trying to make Boimler just one of the gang and just kind of go out.

    [00:40:00] Yeah, exactly.

[00:40:02] And then even with Shaxx and Tiana's relationship, right?

[00:40:06] They're kind of yin and yang for sure.

[00:40:08] So as he's trying to meditate and chill out, she's all over the place and then they kind of balance each other.

[00:40:14] So, well, I'm going to go ahead and get into our tricorder rating.

    [00:40:23] All right.

    [00:40:24] So I got 17 votes and 82 percent.

[00:40:29] It was like, what was this?

    [00:40:32] It was 14 votes.

    [00:40:35] Five beagles.

[00:40:37] OK, 12 percent gave it four Harry Kims.

[00:40:41] I had one vote for three symbionts.

[00:40:44] So someone was like, it was all right.

[00:40:46] But then they gave it one or two bog planets.

[00:40:50] What would your rating be?

    [00:40:52] Oh, I voted five.

    [00:40:54] Five beagles myself.

    [00:40:56] Yeah, you did.

    [00:40:57] Yeah, I I'm kind of torn.

[00:40:59] I feel like it wasn't perfect, but it was so good.

    [00:41:03] Yeah.

[00:41:03] And I think the fact that they were able to get Jolene and Alfre back.

    [00:41:09] I five.

    [00:41:11] Five.

[00:41:12] Chuck, you tell me what your your your rating was.

[00:41:16] You actually said bold Boimler.

    [00:41:19] That's which is true.

[00:41:20] Yeah, I mean, we definitely see a different side with Boimler when he's when he's William.

[00:41:25] But but yeah, it seems I saw so many people, especially those who had screeners.

[00:41:31] They were like, guys, you're going to love it.

[00:41:33] And so I was super excited to see it.

[00:41:35] And it did not disappoint.

[00:41:37] And now I'm very, very scared of what next week's going to happen.

    [00:41:41] That I go down.

[00:41:43] Chuck Chuck said five beagles.

    [00:41:44] Yep.

    [00:41:45] Yep.

[00:41:45] So all across the board, we got five beagles going on.

[00:41:48] But yeah, again, it was such a good episode.

[00:41:52] And I'm just like you just really sad, really sad to see it go.

[00:41:57] Now, real quick, you said you mentioned you just maybe think the episode maybe just lacked a little bit something.

    [00:42:04] Is that right?

[00:42:04] Like if if that was the case, like what could have helped you and just improved it a bit?

[00:42:10] The last episode, Upper Decks?

    [00:42:13] I mean, this episode.

    [00:42:16] Oh, this one.

    [00:42:17] Oh, I think.

[00:42:20] As much as I loved how they had all the characters and stuff like that.

[00:42:27] Again, for you, like we didn't get to see our main people again.

[00:42:32] Like we haven't seen them in a couple episodes.

[00:42:34] That was a little downside for me.

[00:42:36] I think that them figuring out like, oh, the quantum fissure stuff is happening by accident.

    [00:42:42] Oops.

    [00:42:42] So it wasn't a bad person.

[00:42:44] Like that was kind of a little rushed for me, but and then the and then the one Harry, you know, the two Pip Kim being, you know, like vengeance.

    [00:42:52] And oh, yeah.

    [00:42:53] Yeah.

[00:42:54] I can understand that was rushed.

    [00:42:56] Yeah.

[00:42:56] And so that was where I was like, I don't know.

[00:42:59] But everything else as a whole, it let those other little things kind of slide.

[00:43:04] Like, yeah, I guess I'm being too critical with that stuff.

[00:43:08] But at least in this sense that, you know, all the good things that you had mentioned, like their friendship and stuff like that.

[00:43:14] And how they're supposed to come together.

[00:43:16] It's a really good episode to set everything in motion that's going to happen in 10 in the final episode.

[00:43:25] And again, just having Alfre and Jolene back is Mike is a genius.

    [00:43:31] And I even tweet.

[00:43:32] I'm not on Twitter anymore, but I went on Blue Sky and I went on threads and I was like, he is a bloody genius.

[00:43:37] I don't even know how he did it.

[00:43:41] And he must have begged.

    [00:43:42] I don't know.

    [00:43:42] Maybe he's just like, I'm a huge fan.

    [00:43:44] I have this show.

[00:43:44] And because maybe his show is so good, they're like, oh, we love your show.

    [00:43:47] Sure.

    [00:43:47] We'll be on.

    [00:43:50] Chuck said he agrees.

    [00:43:51] Yes.

[00:43:52] Just about the Kim part, probably.

[00:43:55] But I am now going to go into my redhead alert.

    [00:44:02] I did it, guys.

[00:44:03] I had an interview with Gates McFadden.
