[00:00:00] I think I'm saying that we struggle all our lives to answer it. That it's the struggle that is important. That's what helps us to define our place in the universe.
[00:00:10] This is, uh, Beverly. Dr. Beverly. Dr. Dr. Beverly Crusher.
[00:00:16] Honest. Forceful. Trusting. Brilliant. Strong. And adventurous.
[00:00:26] And this is Crusher Convo.
[00:00:28] Hello guys and welcome to Crusher Convo where we're crushing the conversation one episode at a time.
[00:00:34] Tonight we are visited by demigods, geometric shapes, and a catfight to the death.
[00:00:39] Yes, I am talking about Episode 6 of Star Trek Lower Decks Final Season of Gods and Angles.
[00:00:47] I'm very sorry how I sound. I've been sick all week. I'm extremely exhausted.
[00:00:52] But I thought I'll go ahead and go live and we'll get through this together.
[00:00:58] Um, it was an interesting episode. Probably not a favorite of mine.
[00:01:05] Um, not a horrible episode, you know, to say the least, but definitely not one that I was really getting into, right?
[00:01:14] So, let's go ahead and show a clip of the episode.
[00:01:18] Almost. Got it!
[00:01:20] Who said I couldn't stack a hundred pieces of circular furniture onto a single sled?
[00:01:24] I did. And it wasn't a challenge. It was an order.
[00:01:28] Don't worry! I inverted the weight threshold. This bad boy could hold a friggin' neutron star!
[00:01:34] So, I guess, Ollie, Ensign Ollie, who we saw there in the clip, she is supposed to be the descendant of Zeus, which is where we saw...
[00:01:46] It wasn't even Zeus, that's Apollo.
[00:01:50] On Star Trek, who mourns for Andonius?
[00:01:55] Okay.
[00:01:56] Um, I think I've seen the episode once.
[00:01:59] And all I remember was that, Apollo being ginormous, and something about a green hand snagging the Enterprise from orbit.
[00:02:10] Um, which we did see in the new opening credits, the green hand, and so we were curious.
[00:02:17] We were like, huh, I wonder if they're actually going to be, you know, hinting to this episode, and here it is.
[00:02:24] So, I, like I said, it was a very interesting episode.
[00:02:31] I don't know if you guys saw, I just noticed this as I was playing the clip back.
[00:02:35] I saw the stack of furniture that she had.
[00:02:41] One was that really weird wharf chair with the little balls and stuff.
[00:02:48] That, there's an Easter egg there for you guys.
[00:02:51] Um, but yeah, it was, uh, clearly she's, I can't say she's up to no good.
[00:03:00] She clearly was trying to please ransom by going against his order.
[00:03:06] She was trying to prove herself, um, prove herself right.
[00:03:10] You know, like, you know, I'm not a problem.
[00:03:13] I can help.
[00:03:15] Honestly, we, you know, we, we, we see her later on and she's, uh, she, she mentions how much she's into engineering and that was her gift, right?
[00:03:24] It wasn't that the fact that she had powers.
[00:03:26] It was because she was really good in engineering.
[00:03:29] Um, oh, hi, Chuck.
[00:03:31] How are you?
[00:03:32] I hope you're feeling okay.
[00:03:35] Um, so yeah, thank you for joining me tonight.
[00:03:39] I'm trying to do my best right now as, um, I got a throat lozenger.
[00:03:45] I got my water, got my meds.
[00:03:46] We're good.
[00:03:48] So, um, there was a few things that I did want to mention first again, little confusion.
[00:03:55] That was Apollo.
[00:03:56] She mentioned she's a granddaughter or daughter of Zeus.
[00:04:00] I can't remember now, but I think she's a daughter of Zeus.
[00:04:03] No mention about who her mom was.
[00:04:06] So, you know, who knows?
[00:04:10] Um, I think what was funny is that.
[00:04:15] So the, so this was the A plot, the whole Ensign Ollie with the orbs and the cubes and the whole disagreement and everything.
[00:04:21] The B pop was Boimler with the red pad and trying to get Tiana, Dr. Tiana to like him.
[00:04:28] And I thought that was more interesting because I was so excited to see Tiana.
[00:04:33] We really haven't seen her.
[00:04:34] This was like the first time in the first six episodes that we actually got a lot of her on screen.
[00:04:41] Other times she was either just like in the background.
[00:04:43] She barely meowed at some point.
[00:04:46] Maybe she had a line, but nothing really focusing on Tiana.
[00:04:50] And this is of course Boimler story, but she was the focus because he was trying to get her to, to, to like him and give him a nickname.
[00:04:58] Cause he was following that red pad, which was from the alternate Boimler.
[00:05:03] Um, Oh, Chuck says I had a pet CT scan.
[00:05:08] No lymphoma shown.
[00:05:09] Yay.
[00:05:10] Most likely in remission still will have my last four chemotherapy sessions.
[00:05:14] That is wonderful news.
[00:05:16] Chuck.
[00:05:16] I am so happy to hear that.
[00:05:19] I know you've been dealing with this for quite some time.
[00:05:22] And, um, I even re-shared your go fund me on my Twitter page, which is now private.
[00:05:27] But, um, I still have a lot of, you know, Star Trek fans there.
[00:05:32] So I'm really, really happy for you.
[00:05:34] So yay for Chuck.
[00:05:35] That's very exciting news.
[00:05:37] I'm so happy for him.
[00:05:38] Uh, Chuck's amazing.
[00:05:39] He supports so many different Star Trek podcasts and, you know, follows the actors and the creators and all that stuff.
[00:05:47] So very, very cool.
[00:05:49] And he says, thank you so much.
[00:05:51] You're very welcome.
[00:05:53] Um, so back to the episode, I'm going to actually check Instagram real fast.
[00:05:58] So I don't forget.
[00:05:59] Okay.
[00:06:00] I have my mom joining me.
[00:06:01] Hello, mom.
[00:06:02] Um, and talking about Trek podcasts.
[00:06:05] So hello, thank you for, uh, for watching this and hearing me a little nasally, but hopefully we're, we're good.
[00:06:13] Um, okay.
[00:06:15] So the whole thing with Boimler, he wants to try and get Tiana to join her book club, but he, she gives him a nickname and he feels, if I continue on this path, I'll become that Boimler that I saw.
[00:06:30] Okay.
[00:06:31] And so he's trying to do everything he can to try and get her to do it.
[00:06:35] However, he's at the Boimler stage of bugging.
[00:06:39] Right.
[00:06:40] And she's not too, too thrilled about it.
[00:06:44] Rutherford and Tendi were both like, oh yeah, we noticed you with this weird pad that was from the alternate Boimler.
[00:06:51] And the only reason why they knew it was because it had like a three point something bevel, like thicker bevel or something.
[00:06:59] And he's like, the pads red.
[00:07:01] And they're like, oh yeah.
[00:07:02] And they both didn't even notice that.
[00:07:03] Right.
[00:07:04] Such a Rutherford and Tendi thing.
[00:07:06] Um, but you know, he was so obsessed to try and follow it like step by step.
[00:07:12] But he wasn't really understanding of, well, why did Tiana gave him the flip name?
[00:07:20] Right.
[00:07:20] Maybe the alternate Boimler really enjoyed books and he talked to her about books and the way he'd read it.
[00:07:27] And that's why.
[00:07:28] But Boimler wasn't thinking about that.
[00:07:30] He was just like, I just need her to get me to, you know, give me that nickname.
[00:07:33] So you can see Boimler just really struggling with how to, to figure this out.
[00:07:42] While he's trying to deal with this, we have Ensign Ollie who we saw.
[00:07:46] Everyone's having trouble with this Ensign.
[00:07:49] And of course Mariner feels like, hey, I, I can help her.
[00:07:53] Okay.
[00:07:54] Um, I was a troubled Ensign.
[00:07:57] Everyone wanted to give up on me.
[00:07:58] I'm going to, to do my part.
[00:08:01] And even at some point, either, um, Captain Freeman wanted to move her onto another ship, just like they've been doing.
[00:08:10] No words.
[00:08:10] We didn't really understand.
[00:08:12] Like even in that scene, we saw the shock and it, that, you know, bike take off.
[00:08:19] But I just thought malfunction.
[00:08:21] Okay.
[00:08:21] This girl just has, was it Murphy's law?
[00:08:24] Like just following around black cloud.
[00:08:26] She just literally the worst luck ever.
[00:08:30] In reality, she was her own worst luck.
[00:08:33] She was her own worst enemy because she just kept making bad choices.
[00:08:39] And it just became worse.
[00:08:42] Right.
[00:08:43] Because she was trying so hard to hide that she was a demigod and that she had powers that she didn't even realize that she was causing her own problems.
[00:08:52] Okay.
[00:08:53] And, um, now the whole, um, roaring fractions between the two, which was, this is the angles part of the title, the orbs and the cubes.
[00:09:06] Okay.
[00:09:07] And they don't like each other because one has edges and the other one is too smooth.
[00:09:11] And, you know, they didn't like section 10 of the treating because it was too round and they didn't like the edges of the ship.
[00:09:18] And Freeman was freaking out.
[00:09:20] Cause she's like, how do I get rid of that?
[00:09:22] You know?
[00:09:22] So it's just like another TNG type moment where they're trying to get these two worlds to have a peace treating.
[00:09:32] And of course, one of them disappears.
[00:09:35] I, I literally, I picked it up so quickly when that first, the, I think it was the cube that disappeared.
[00:09:43] Um, and they were all like, you know, we're trying to find them.
[00:09:46] And then they thought he was murdered because they saw his residue on the wall.
[00:09:51] And I instantly was like, oh, he's hiding.
[00:09:55] Like, there's a reason that he's hiding.
[00:09:58] And I even thought, well, maybe he's probably fallen in love with an orb.
[00:10:01] And this was before we heard the girl orb was missing the daughter.
[00:10:06] And so I kind of clocked it.
[00:10:09] Cause that's just an old trope, you know?
[00:10:12] Um, they even did it on Xena.
[00:10:13] I mentioned it on my, uh, cause and effect episode with Patrick.
[00:10:18] I had mentioned that Xena's day was repeating itself because there were two families at war.
[00:10:25] And, but one of each fell in love.
[00:10:27] And then there was this whole thing.
[00:10:29] This is literally this.
[00:10:31] I'm sure there's so many movies, books, all this is it.
[00:10:36] Right.
[00:10:38] So, um, I kind of clocked that real fast, but I was still trying to figure out how Ollie fit into all of it.
[00:10:47] Right.
[00:10:48] Cause personally for me, I don't think Ollie was needed.
[00:10:52] I think it was just more of nostalgia in the sense that they were bringing her back or not even bringing her back.
[00:11:00] They were bringing her in to showcase this TOS episode.
[00:11:05] Right.
[00:11:07] Which is fine.
[00:11:08] I mean, there was nothing wrong with it.
[00:11:10] It wasn't like she was a bad part of the story.
[00:11:12] I just think that they could have done it without Ollie.
[00:11:16] But also I think they were also doing it because, um, it was also part of Mariner story.
[00:11:22] Right.
[00:11:23] They're really trying to show how different she is and how she's really trying to make amends with her family and, and the crew and doing what Starfleet does.
[00:11:32] And so this was her time to shine because she was always the one, you know, changing ships, being in the brig, all that stuff.
[00:11:41] And now it's her, you know, her turn to, to help someone.
[00:11:44] So I understand that aspect, but I just wasn't a huge fan of Ollie.
[00:11:51] And maybe it's because I'm not a huge fan of that TOS episode.
[00:11:53] Literally saw it once.
[00:11:54] And I, I guys, I'm a Greek mythology fanatic.
[00:11:59] Okay.
[00:12:00] If you did not know about that, about me, I love Greek mythology.
[00:12:05] It's all because of Xena, but, and Roman mythology, but it's very interesting to me.
[00:12:11] Absolutely love it.
[00:12:12] Love the constellations, the whole nine yards.
[00:12:16] Couldn't really get into it in the original series.
[00:12:18] So, um, but that's just because it's Star Trek and it was campy and whatever.
[00:12:24] But even with this, I'm just like, all right, it was cool.
[00:12:28] It was fine.
[00:12:29] It wasn't, you know, it's probably not an episode that I would go and like purposely watch again, but I wouldn't turn it off.
[00:12:38] It was on, you know, if it was playing.
[00:12:39] Right.
[00:12:40] So, um, let me see here.
[00:12:44] They, oh, so when they were noticing that residue, you know, Mariner and Ollie bring in the captain ransom.
[00:12:52] I think Shax was there and they were trying to figure out, uh, what had happened.
[00:12:56] And, uh, Mariner mentioned Dixon Hill.
[00:13:01] Okay.
[00:13:02] So it was her way of just being like, oh, this is another, you know, even Dixon Hill will have trouble with this one.
[00:13:08] Right.
[00:13:09] Cause they just weren't sure.
[00:13:11] If foul play was involved, but then they didn't want to like cause any problems because these two.
[00:13:21] Entities were already causing problems.
[00:13:24] Right.
[00:13:25] So, um, oh, my mother says, hello, hello.
[00:13:30] Um, so anyways, I think that's where, you know, it was kind of like, okay, how do we process this without causing more problems?
[00:13:39] Well, then that's where Ollie plays into it.
[00:13:41] Into it.
[00:13:42] She is the one that caused the problems.
[00:13:44] Um, as they were trying to find more evidence and figure out what was going on.
[00:13:51] Um, they decided to talk to this orb and it's funny because I'm not really 100% sure why they wanted to talk with this particular orb, but they decided to do like the good cop, bad cop with it.
[00:14:04] And, um, and it was funny because he was kind of saying, he was like, I'm actually for the trading.
[00:14:10] Like, I really want this to happen.
[00:14:12] But Ollie was so quick to judge.
[00:14:16] She, she just ruined all of it.
[00:14:20] But there was a reason why she ruined it, which we found out later.
[00:14:24] Chuck.
[00:14:24] Jesse, I think this is a Mike McMahon callback.
[00:14:27] She is wearing a Laurel and her name is Ollie.
[00:14:30] It has got to be a callback to Stan, Laura, and Oliver Hardy.
[00:14:37] Oh, this is why Chuck's in the chat.
[00:14:42] I, I'm running with it, Chuck.
[00:14:44] I'm just gonna, it's now canon.
[00:14:46] Okay.
[00:14:47] I don't care if it wasn't, but it's now canon.
[00:14:51] Okay.
[00:14:53] Laurel and Hardy.
[00:14:56] That's, ah, you know what?
[00:14:59] Now it just makes it even more interesting when you figure out how, how much of an Easter egg is into this episode.
[00:15:05] Um, if that's true, Chuck, that is a good one.
[00:15:10] Um, but, and actually, if you want to, if you want to hear really a deep cut, everyone, it took people a few times when they heard this.
[00:15:24] It took me a few times for sure.
[00:15:29] When Boimler was talking to Rutherford.
[00:15:31] Okay.
[00:15:32] And he was pretending he did not know about that red pad.
[00:15:35] He was like, what are you talking about?
[00:15:36] He says, oh, you're a, um, a, like a regular Ronald B. Moore.
[00:15:43] Uh, you're so funny or something like that.
[00:15:45] Throwing jokes, something like that.
[00:15:47] I listened to that.
[00:15:49] And at first I thought he said, Ronald D. Moore, who of course is a writer for, you know, very famous writer of Star Trek and who went on to Voyager and all that.
[00:16:00] And then it was like, oh no, no, no.
[00:16:02] He said B. Moore.
[00:16:03] And then I realized I was like, oh yeah, there's two Ronalds.
[00:16:05] And how to remember.
[00:16:06] I was like, okay, so Ronald B. Moore was the special effects supervisor.
[00:16:09] And he's literally from the very first episode of TNG to the very last episode of Enterprise.
[00:16:15] He was there that whole time.
[00:16:17] And so I'm like, oh yeah, that's interesting.
[00:16:19] I was like, but why would they say that he was a comedian?
[00:16:22] You know, if he was supposed to be.
[00:16:25] He's the special effects guy, right?
[00:16:27] So deep cut.
[00:16:29] I went and Googled, um, memory alpha really.
[00:16:32] And actually Lori from Trek movie did the exact same thing because I was like, what is going on?
[00:16:39] And the outrageous Okana in season two, and this is why I didn't catch it.
[00:16:43] Cause it's season two.
[00:16:44] There was that moment where data wanted to be funny and he was talking with Guyton and they went in the holodeck and they got that comedian.
[00:16:52] Okay.
[00:16:53] Apparently that comedian was Ronald B. Moore.
[00:16:56] So that's what Boimler was referring to.
[00:16:59] And I'm all, oh my gosh, that's again, deep, deep cut.
[00:17:04] That is like far back in the atmosphere.
[00:17:09] And he just plucked it out and just like, we're going to use this.
[00:17:13] So, um, yes, Chuck said fantastic.
[00:17:16] Deep cut very much.
[00:17:18] So, but I was all like, oh man.
[00:17:20] And I didn't even realize that they named the comedian.
[00:17:24] Um, I know he wasn't a real comedian.
[00:17:27] It was an actor, but, um, but yeah, I, I wasn't paying attention again.
[00:17:34] It was season two.
[00:17:35] I was only trying to just get through it.
[00:17:36] So I could say that I saw all of TNG, but back to Ollie.
[00:17:42] Okay.
[00:17:42] So yeah, they were talking with the orb.
[00:17:45] Ollie was a bit much.
[00:17:47] Mariner is like, what the heck?
[00:17:50] And when they're trying to figure out this whole thing, the orbs in the cubes are getting worse and worse.
[00:18:00] And then that's when they were, that's all hell broke loose.
[00:18:04] Okay.
[00:18:05] And so, cause Ollie's just like, oh yeah, he had to have been murdered.
[00:18:11] And that just set everyone off.
[00:18:13] And then they started fighting and things were happening.
[00:18:15] And prior to this happening, when Boimler was trying to get Tiana to like him, he decided, oh, I'm going to talk to her, talk in her language, which instead of thinking was the, um, oh, what is her species?
[00:18:32] Keation.
[00:18:33] Keation.
[00:18:34] I should have written this down.
[00:18:36] I failed.
[00:18:37] We'll just blame the cold meds.
[00:18:39] Um, and there, he was like, oh no.
[00:18:42] And he's like cursing because that's what she likes to do.
[00:18:45] And so it's a, hey, Dr. beep, beep, beep, beep, you know?
[00:18:50] And she's like, excuse me.
[00:18:52] And he's just going off and intending Rutherford, like back up dude, because something, something's going to happen.
[00:19:00] And of course, Dr. Tiana loses it.
[00:19:03] And she went all meow, completely scratching the crap out of him.
[00:19:07] It is like if you, you know, had a feral cat that lost control and just started shredding you in, you know, on your face, on your, you know, that's basically what was happening.
[00:19:19] It was hilarious.
[00:19:19] This is why I said the cat fight of death.
[00:19:22] I'm surprised Boimler even survived.
[00:19:25] So that happened.
[00:19:26] And then when the orbs and the cubes were fighting, there's Tiana trying to stop because, you know, people were getting hurt.
[00:19:36] And he's like, I want to help.
[00:19:37] And she's like, this is even too much for you.
[00:19:39] And she called him.
[00:19:41] Sorry, mom.
[00:19:42] But this is what she said.
[00:19:43] But in a bleep word, she said, fucko.
[00:19:45] But in a bleep word, and you could tell that's what she said.
[00:19:50] And, but he really wanted to help her, right?
[00:19:53] Like this was like, screw the pad, screw the whole flip nickname.
[00:19:57] I, you know, I want, I want to help.
[00:19:59] Well, when Mariner had figured out that the Ensign had hidden a piece of evidence because she freaked out.
[00:20:10] And then she had a minute.
[00:20:12] She's like, I do have powers.
[00:20:13] They just suck.
[00:20:14] I don't know how to basically, she doesn't know how to properly like use them or something.
[00:20:18] And so this was Mariner's time of like, hey, you, you can do this.
[00:20:24] Like use your powers to stop these too.
[00:20:26] And it should work.
[00:20:28] So she's like, okay, I could do that.
[00:20:31] And sure enough, she absorbs their powers and she, but she took on too much.
[00:20:36] Which ended up shooting lightning bolts all over the place.
[00:20:40] Which then ended up hitting Boimler.
[00:20:44] Because he was trying to help and he was in the way.
[00:20:47] Well, as all this is going on, the orbs and the cubes are trying to turn into massive, huge, giant, crazy sizes.
[00:20:59] So they all went out and turned into a giant orb and a giant cube and they're just fighting each other.
[00:21:05] So funny because the cube basically reminded me of the Borg, the Borg cube.
[00:21:13] And so I was kind of wondering, I was like, are these cubes like related?
[00:21:18] Like, did they act like, was there technology taken from the Borg?
[00:21:24] I don't know.
[00:21:24] I'm just, maybe that's a far stretch, but I'm just saying.
[00:21:29] I'm just saying.
[00:21:30] Joe Piscopo.
[00:21:31] Yes, that was the actor who played the comedian.
[00:21:34] Let's look on Instagram.
[00:21:37] All right.
[00:21:37] Still good.
[00:21:38] So anyway, so yeah.
[00:21:40] So now everything's just absolutely crazy.
[00:21:43] The Cerritos is in trouble.
[00:21:46] And of course, this is where the, the moment, um, all he realizes, oh, wait, I've been trying,
[00:21:54] you know, she was trying to hide who she was, which was being a demigod.
[00:21:58] Trying to hide that she had powers because she never could use it.
[00:22:02] But then in her mind, she's realizing, wait, I know what I'm good at, which was engineering.
[00:22:08] I could actually turn this around.
[00:22:11] And so they run up to the bridge.
[00:22:15] They see, you know, uh, Billups and they, you know, of course, Freeman's like, get off my bridge, but they're like, no, we can do this.
[00:22:20] And Billups is like, yeah, whatever she had planned about absorbing their energy and then tractor beam, which Shax was like, tractor beams is for tractoring.
[00:22:30] Um, so she's like, no, I could use it for something else.
[00:22:35] And then it would build up power.
[00:22:36] When she was talking about this, it reminded me of Picard season three, which they were using the nebula because it was showing a bunch of like, uh, power surges.
[00:22:48] Right.
[00:22:48] And Beverly was able to count because she said it was like a contraction.
[00:22:52] So she was able to count of when those were going to hit, but one was going to hit to the point that it was going to fall apart.
[00:22:59] Right.
[00:23:00] So they needed to use that energy in order to absorb into the nacelles, build up power so they can get out of there.
[00:23:08] This is kind of, I feel like the same thing.
[00:23:11] They were taking the energy with the tractor beams from the orbs and the cubes, sucking it in and drawing power into the shields.
[00:23:18] Could be wrong.
[00:23:20] I don't know techno babble very well.
[00:23:23] Um, but I feel that's what they were going for.
[00:23:26] And I'm just going to run with it until I'm told not to.
[00:23:29] But yeah, so I, you know, and of course, what did Ramson say when they became big?
[00:23:36] They were like, oh, they're going to do something.
[00:23:38] He's like, and he said something to the effect of like, they don't know what they're doing.
[00:23:42] Right.
[00:23:42] And it was just, all they wanted to do was fight.
[00:23:46] They didn't care who was right and wrong or even trying to make peace.
[00:23:50] Now, some of them wanted to make peace like that little orb.
[00:23:52] They were, you know, interrogating earlier because he was like, I'm, I'm for the, you know, to peace treating.
[00:24:00] But they weren't listening to each other, which then brings in the boy cube and the girl orb and they had a little baby.
[00:24:07] Okay.
[00:24:09] And when Ollie figured out how to do it and they stopped him and they all came in, that's of course, when they realized, oh, there was no murder.
[00:24:16] This was all a misunderstanding.
[00:24:19] And, um, then of course, that's when the, the son and daughter show up and they're like, yes, we're in love.
[00:24:26] And what they found in the room was residue that was icky.
[00:24:31] And unfortunately, Ollie had touched that.
[00:24:35] So sorry, Ollie.
[00:24:36] Um, but then they created this little cube.
[00:24:42] What was his name?
[00:24:44] Square, Aaron, right?
[00:24:46] Square and square.
[00:24:48] And then this little, you know, joining the two, um, I guess we can call them houses, right?
[00:24:57] Uh, joining those two that would bring them together and have a, have a peace treaty.
[00:25:02] So then, you know, all's fair, love and war.
[00:25:05] And there you go.
[00:25:06] And then happy ending.
[00:25:08] Why I thought the Boimler stuff was more funnier.
[00:25:13] It's all that.
[00:25:14] Right.
[00:25:15] Great.
[00:25:15] Cool.
[00:25:16] Everything was happy, happy Dory.
[00:25:17] There's Tiana doing surgery on Boimler to remove the lightning bolt from his butt.
[00:25:26] Okay.
[00:25:28] And you see her, you know, she had a bunch of people there watching.
[00:25:32] And I think even Tiana, not Tiana, Tendi was like wiping the sweat off Tiana's face so she can get every little piece.
[00:25:41] And I guess it was very tricky because this was a, it wasn't like a, a, a piece of metal, right?
[00:25:48] It was a lightning bolt.
[00:25:49] So it was a little bit different.
[00:25:51] I was very upset to be honest, that she was not in the red scrub cap thing.
[00:25:59] Um, I guess they've eliminated that.
[00:26:02] I don't know, but I, you know, I wished, I wish it was all in red, just like they had in TOS and just like they had Beverly and in the next generation.
[00:26:12] And I'm wondering if they even, I think even Bashir had that whole red cap thing while they're doing surgery.
[00:26:18] So, um, slightly disappointed, but it wasn't the end of the world.
[00:26:21] Okay.
[00:26:22] And, and maybe because it wasn't a huge surgery, you know, she was just taking something out of his butt.
[00:26:27] But, um, but because he did get hurt in the way that he did, she was able to basically create this whole new, not technology, but whole new like, uh, procedure.
[00:26:41] And she's all like, I think I'm now finally going to be, uh, important in the medical community because of this.
[00:26:49] And it's all thanks to you, Boimler.
[00:26:50] That was basically her attitude.
[00:26:51] And he was like, Oh, okay.
[00:26:53] But instead of him getting the nickname flip, he got F O.
[00:26:59] Right.
[00:26:59] So that's where, um, and then she's like, come to my book club and bring sure you bring a pillow.
[00:27:05] And then they just, she was all of a sudden liked him because he did something.
[00:27:10] He, he got out of his head out of the red pad and just was himself.
[00:27:18] And the thing is, I think Boimler needs to understand that he can't exactly follow every little thing that that alternate Boimler did because, you know, just even eating a different food or saying a different word or doing something.
[00:27:40] And then he's kind of on the same path.
[00:27:41] And so he's kind of on the same path, but instead of flip, it was F O.
[00:27:47] Right.
[00:27:47] And they still go into the book club, but has a different nickname.
[00:27:53] So he needs to realize that he needs to be on his own path.
[00:27:57] It's not going to be exactly the same as the, as the alternate Boimler, but it's going to be the path that he's meant to be on.
[00:28:03] Okay.
[00:28:04] And, but of course, Rutherford didn't realize that.
[00:28:07] And it was like, oh, I just need to follow that pad too.
[00:28:10] And Tanya's like, oh my gosh, they're, they're not going to make it.
[00:28:16] So at least Boimler's thing came to a happy ending.
[00:28:19] I'm really hoping this isn't the only Tiana stuff that we see.
[00:28:24] I love Tiana.
[00:28:25] She's hilarious and she's the doctor and she's a cat.
[00:28:29] So win-win for me.
[00:28:31] Right.
[00:28:31] Right.
[00:28:32] But I think with it being the last season, it's, and I'm not really trying to say like Shax and Tiana and them are not, or even Billups are not main characters, but really the main, main, main characters were always Mariner, Boimler, Tandy, and Rutherford.
[00:28:52] So I think those are going to be the huge focus with these, this final season.
[00:28:59] So really the other characters like Freeman and Ransom and Shax and Tiana and Talyn and Billups, they are just going to be a part of those other stories, but not really have a story of their own.
[00:29:11] Maybe have a little bit because Freeman is dealing with the, I don't want to be that alternate Freeman who was on that Starbase 80.
[00:29:20] Right.
[00:29:21] Ransom has just been kind of going with the flow with everybody.
[00:29:25] And then of course we didn't really see much of Shax.
[00:29:31] We haven't seen much of Tiana except for this one.
[00:29:34] Talyn had a good moment when, you know, it was the Nanite episode where, you know, we saw that she was fangirling over that vibe tube musician.
[00:29:48] But that's about it.
[00:29:49] Like, so I'm curious of what these other episodes are really going to entail and how much more of their story that we're going to get.
[00:29:57] Okay.
[00:29:58] So Chuck says growing beard in each episode, that is a story of its own.
[00:30:04] And today it's a little bit more, right?
[00:30:06] I think it was at last week where it was just more of a mustache and we saw a little specks here and there, but now it's definitely growing in.
[00:30:14] And he's, you know, the alternate Boimler, I kind of felt like he was being like Riker.
[00:30:21] Right.
[00:30:23] And Boimler was very, is a fan of Riker, really wanted to be on the Titan, got to be on the Titan and realized it wasn't his place.
[00:30:34] But, but I think the alternate Boimler kind of took a bit out of, took a page out of the Riker handbook and kind of ran with it a little bit.
[00:30:43] And this Boimler didn't.
[00:30:45] So there is going to be subtle differences, I think, between the two more than I think Boimler realizes.
[00:30:52] So, and on Instagram, Marcy has joined.
[00:30:55] Hello, Marcy.
[00:30:56] Thank you for joining.
[00:30:58] And just so you know, guys, I still don't have a guest for episode seven, eight or nine, but I do have a guest for the finale.
[00:31:05] And it is Marcy over at Idol Ride Podcast and Green Shirt.
[00:31:09] Okay.
[00:31:11] Love Marcy.
[00:31:12] She is so much fun.
[00:31:13] And we figured that since this is the finale, we're going to have lots of laughs and lots of tears.
[00:31:18] Okay.
[00:31:18] So super excited.
[00:31:20] Cannot wait to have that episode with her.
[00:31:24] But other than that, I think the only thing that was left was that Ollie got to stay on the Cerritos and she was now going to be in engineering.
[00:31:34] But she had to stay in the brig for a hot second.
[00:31:38] So here she is in the brig.
[00:31:40] She was all like, but I saved everyone.
[00:31:41] Why am I here?
[00:31:43] And for Mariner, it's just like, well, you did lie.
[00:31:47] You did hide evidence.
[00:31:48] You didn't, you know, you didn't really follow the rules, you know.
[00:31:53] And of course, then Ollie was trying to be all like, well, I love the brig and blah, blah, blah, blah.
[00:31:58] And Mariners are like, oh, yeah, we're nothing alike.
[00:32:00] Right.
[00:32:01] Because that was exactly like Mariner.
[00:32:03] I think that's why Ollie had this story was to highlight how much Mariner has grown.
[00:32:09] And of course, the end Mariner sits there and is trying to chat her ear off, asking her about Zeus and her mom.
[00:32:15] She mentions Medusa.
[00:32:16] Now, that was actually a very good question.
[00:32:18] She asks about the snake.
[00:32:20] She's like, is it all one snake with multiple heads or is it multiple snakes?
[00:32:24] Do they all have names?
[00:32:25] Like, and I actually try to think about it.
[00:32:27] I was like, I think they're different snakes, but I'm not sure.
[00:32:32] I don't think they really clarified that.
[00:32:34] So good question, Mariner.
[00:32:36] Now I'm going to be thinking about it.
[00:32:39] But that was it.
[00:32:41] That was the episode.
[00:32:43] Had to watch it a few times to try and catch as much as I'm probably, probably missed some stuff.
[00:32:50] But it wasn't an episode that really grabbed me.
[00:32:55] Like last week, I really enjoyed Starbase 80.
[00:32:59] I thought they really put a lot into it.
[00:33:02] Thing with Freeman and the thing with Mariner and all that stuff.
[00:33:05] I think they did a really, really good job.
[00:33:07] And of course, I had a lot of fun because my friend and co-worker Alexa was with me.
[00:33:12] But, you know, there was a lot of good conversations that we got to talk about because of the stuff that we were doing.
[00:33:17] Here it was.
[00:33:20] Yeah, we got to see the growth of the characters.
[00:33:22] But it just, I don't know.
[00:33:25] It just didn't hit as much as the other episodes have.
[00:33:31] But, I mean, that's okay.
[00:33:33] I mean, I don't know if they knew that they got canceled by this point when they made episode six.
[00:33:41] I'm not really sure when they got told.
[00:33:46] But it's one of those things where I'm kind of just waiting where I'm all like, it's going to click.
[00:33:51] Where I'm going to be like, oh, there it is.
[00:33:53] I don't think they knew it yet.
[00:33:54] Because I feel like this episode probably wouldn't have happened.
[00:33:57] I think it's just more of a filler episode.
[00:34:01] I guess you can say a bottle episode in a sense because they were just on the ship.
[00:34:05] They hadn't gone anywhere.
[00:34:05] So, I don't think this would have occurred if they knew they had gotten canceled.
[00:34:12] I think they would have probably maybe created more stories for Billups or Shaxx or Tiana or Talyn.
[00:34:19] You know, the stuff that we're waiting for.
[00:34:22] Because I feel like they got kind of told a little late.
[00:34:24] And so then they were trying to, you know, thrust as much in as possible in those last few episodes.
[00:34:30] But, you know, it is what it is.
[00:34:33] It's still a decent episode.
[00:34:35] It's nothing crazy.
[00:34:37] But, so that actually, they can get to it.
[00:34:41] That's going to go into our tricorder rating.
[00:34:50] Okay, so I got 15 votes this time.
[00:34:52] And so the choices was going to be five laurels, four book clubs, three red pads, or one or two orbs and cubes.
[00:35:02] I personally am giving it a three.
[00:35:06] Not a horrible episode.
[00:35:07] Not a horrible episode.
[00:35:08] But just not something that grasped my attention.
[00:35:11] And actually, everything is kind of across the board.
[00:35:15] We got 47% for five laurels.
[00:35:19] So there's a good chunk of you guys that really enjoyed this episode.
[00:35:23] 27% gave it four book clubs.
[00:35:27] And then 13% gave it either three red pads or one to two orbs and cubes.
[00:35:35] So there was a good handful of you guys that just wasn't feeling it.
[00:35:40] Okay.
[00:35:40] So, I mean, like I said, I think with them not knowing that they were canceled, I don't think this episode would have happened.
[00:35:50] And I feel like that was, I'm kind of curious what It's Got Star Trek is going to say about it.
[00:35:57] They're going to be recording here in a little bit.
[00:36:01] So maybe I can throw in a voice hail real fast before they do.
[00:36:05] But, you know, they tend to also be, I don't want to say picky, but they also kind of point out some things that are like, oh, this is great, but this might not have worked.
[00:36:15] I know Trek Movie did that with Tony and Lori.
[00:36:17] So, you know, we definitely enjoy this series.
[00:36:22] And we're very sad that it's ending.
[00:36:25] But, and so we're always excited to see these episodes.
[00:36:28] But, you know, just depending on how the story goes, it just might not fit very well.
[00:36:36] But I'm thinking that is it on here.
[00:36:41] And so I guess we'll just go ahead to my Redhead Alert.
[00:36:50] There it is.
[00:36:51] Redhead Alert, guys.
[00:36:53] And this is just a reminder about Trek Talks that is happening on January 18th.

[00:37:14] My design, the Be Kind Like Crusher, all the proceeds that I get from this shirt will go to Trek Talks.
[00:37:22] Have not made one dime.
[00:37:24] And it's fine.
[00:37:26] It really is.
[00:37:27] I'm really hoping, though, that we can really build, you know, a good donation to send over there.
[00:37:35] I just think that, you know, any help is appreciated.
[00:37:41] And, of course, as always, it's John Billingsley and Bonnie Gordon who will be hosting this telethon.
[00:37:48] I hear there's going to be amazing guests.
[00:37:50] So far, there is a few that they're pretty excited about.
[00:37:54] And so I'm pretty excited about it.
[00:37:57] And, but, yeah.
[00:37:59] So definitely hit them up.
[00:38:02] This is going to be happening again on January 18th.

[00:39:32] Thank you, Chuck, for joining me in the chat.
[00:39:35] And then thank you to Talking About Trek, my mom, and Marcy over on Instagram.
[00:39:43] You know, we're nearing the end, guys.
[00:39:46] Episode 7 is next week.
[00:39:48] So we'll see what happens.
[00:39:49] And, of course, that episode is going to be called Fully Dilated.
[00:39:54] At least I hope that's what it's called because they haven't really been fully accurate.
[00:39:59] I didn't mean to pun.
[00:40:00] But they haven't really been accurate with these last two titles because originally it was like Starburst 80 question mark and then it ended up being Starburst 80 question mark exclamation mark, which isn't a huge deal.
[00:40:11] But this one, this one was a big one.
[00:40:13] They were calling it of gods and angels when it was really of gods and angles, which makes more sense.
[00:40:18] So we'll see what Fully Dilated means.
[00:40:21] There's a lot of things running in my head right now with that title.
[00:40:25] So hopefully we'll find out.
[00:40:28] We'll all figure it out together on what's happening.
[00:40:32] But, you know, just remember next week, same time, same place.
[00:40:37] Meet me here.
[00:40:38] 5 p.m. Pacific Standard Time.
[00:40:40] And we will talk about the next episode, episode 7.
[00:40:44] Thank you for, you know, dealing with my congestion and things like that.
[00:40:50] Hopefully I didn't sound too, too crappy.
[00:40:53] I'm definitely feeling a lot better than I did a couple of days ago.
[00:40:56] So I'm glad that worked out.
[00:40:59] But as always, everyone, I hope everyone has a happy Thanksgiving because that is next Thursday.
